My Life...
Doing one of the things I do best...smiling!
I am Kenisha E. Hawthorne. I was born and raised in Mississippi. I recently completed an Educational Specialist Degree(Ed.S.) in Educational Leadership. In the near future I would like to be a principal, but I would like to be an educational consultant as well. My greatest interest is working with students that are considered at risk academically and economically. I enjoy training and encouraging teachers, as well as students. I hope to be able to travel the world someday soon and do exactly that!
I currently teach 4th Grade in Nashville, TN. I have taught 3rd Grade, special needs Pre-K and typically developing Pre-K. All of them I have loved and learned a lot from them. I currenlty serve on my school leadership team, as well as a principal designee. I was nominated teacher of the year in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school year. Although I didn't win, I was very honored to even be considered and nominated. Last year, I was able to be an active participant in the development of a program called Saturday Scholars. This program allowed students to attend school on Saturdays to enhance their Reading, Language, and Math skills. I was not only one of the developers, but I also volunteered weekly to tutor students. I am pleased to say that we are in our 2nd year of this program.
This year, I was able to take the very thing I enjoy (speaking and reasoning) and sow into my students. I established a 4th Grade Debate Team! It is the first in my school's history. I have a total of 22 very bright 4th Graders participating this year. I believe they are absolutely AWESOME! Our first debate will be very soon and I look forward to seeing them WIN!
I do not have any children of my own, but I have a lot of little souls that I love and sow into on a daily basis...from cousins to nephews to god-children and of course my students.
In my spare time(when there is some), I enjoy reading, traveling, spending time with loved ones, playing softball, jogging, zumba, singing, dancing, and writing. Over the past few years, I've learned that I can't go a day without worshipping my God. My relationship with God is a huge part of my life, and it is the reason and the source from which my strength is drawn.
I am also an active member of the most glorious sorority in the land...Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I currently serve as the chair person for Delta Academy within the sorority. The goal of this group is to inspire, encourage, and mentor young minority girls ages 11-14 in the areas of leadership, math, and science. I also serve as an education mentor for members of the local collegiate chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.(Iota Tau)
To sum it all up, "I love what I do, and I do what I love!" -Kenisha E. Hawthorne
